Management:
Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices
Peter Drucker
This book is a bible for managers, and I mean that in the Biblical
sense: Drucker explains it all, pure and simple, and if you don't like
it, you're just wrong and you'll pay dearly for your ignorance. I
love this book. It's just so authoritative. Heavy, too. I like that.

Microsoft
Project : People inevitably complain about MS Project, saying it's
impossible to use and forces you to do things "the way it wants you to".
I think there's a misconception, though: project management is a very formally
developed discipline, and you're better off learning that discipline than
trying to invent a better way on your own. MS Project implements the components
of the discipline as defined by the PMI;
if you use it, you need to understand that there's an entire methodology
that goes along with it. If you choose to drop anything, you should know
what you're dropping and why that's okay
